March Classes focus: Glass on Glass

There’s something magical when light and glass come together. The refraction and reflection illuminates the spirit and brightens any space. In March, Instructor Luz Mack and Assistant Instructor Jose Morales taught a glass on glass workshop with a votive as the base. Participant artists frequently request this workshop and enjoy the challenge of cutting precise pieces and envisioning how their work will look with a light shining through.

The process is not easy. It includes cutting exact shapes, using different adhesives, and requires focus and attention to detail. “I was excited for the glass on glass workshop because it was a total different spin from the traditional techniques,” said artist Ricardo. While some artists are new to working with glass and practiced basic cutting techniques, more experienced artists were encouraged to try more challenging designs.

Both instructors are highly skilled in glass mosaics, and their supportive and encouraging approach to teaching creates a welcoming environment for all levels of learners to participate and create.  Jose shared “Teaching this glass class made me happy because I was able to share what I know with others and see their learning and advancement come through in future projects.”
