Inspiration & Creativity Series: Photography with Ilene Squires

Piece by Piece's newest offering is our Inspiration & Creativity Series. This new workshop series infuses a variety of other mediums, including watercolor, collage, photography, and drawing. Based on input from participants during the end of year survey, there was an interest in exploring other modes of creativity to inspire and motivate artists.

This month's class was focused on photography and was taught by professional photographer Ilene Squires. Ilene is not only a professional photographer, but  also an instructor, she has taught photography extensively to both youth and adults in both English and Spanish.

In her session the artists discussed ways to look at and understand images. They discussed how a photograph can make you feel and how to photograph both people and objects. There was an opportunity to practice as they learned. Artists were encouraged to photograph mosaics they had made or were making.

Artists spread out in the classroom and in the courtyard to experiment with natural light and creating their own photographic creations. We look forward to seeing how the artists incorporate what they learned into their mosaics and how they see the world!
