Jeanette M.

Mosaic Artist

Where are you from? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Pasadena and now live in Los Angeles.

Tell us about your family?
My mama is from Mississippi and moved to California before I was born. I am one of 5 kids that she had and raised. She’s always been a source of inspiration to me. Showed me how to be a mother. Some of my family lives with me now and I love them.

What is something you are proud of?
Coming to workshops when it first opened. It gave me something to do instead of being home and alone and bored. I’m usually a home body but here I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and made friends and connections I wouldn’t have otherwise.

When did you first come to Piece by Piece?
When Piece by Piece first opened!

How have you grown as a person and artist since joining Piece by Piece?
Now I know how to cut glass and I have learned how to learn just by watching. I’m a better learner and I like to try more difficult things.

What has Piece by Piece and creating mosaics added to your life?
I keep saying I’m going to give up with art but Piece by Piece keeps me going and learning more and more!

Who inspires you?
My mama

What project has been your favorite to work on?
All of them! You gotta try everything to see if you like it and I like to try all the new ways to create mosaics and art.

What keeps you coming back to workshops?
I need to keep my mind busy and piece by piece makes me think. It keeps me going in other parts of my life.

What are you most proud of during your time at Piece by Piece so far?
Stepping out of my comfort zone. Every time I come here I'm stepping out of my comfort zone just a little, but I grow every time I do.
