As the founder of Piece by Piece, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the transformative power of art and community firsthand. Over the years, this organization has grown into a vibrant force for change, offering individuals not only creative opportunities but also hope and healing.

For nearly two decades, Dawn Mendelson has been the heart and soul of Piece by Piece, serving as Program and Artistic Director with dedication, creativity, and compassion. Over the past 18 years, Dawn has transformed Piece by Piece into a vibrant community where art is not only a tool for healing but also a means of connection and empowerment for individuals rebuilding their lives.

At Piece by Piece, we are contributing to several of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Thanks to the extraordinary help of the Piece by Piece community, we have found a beautiful new space in CRCD's newest building, Marcella Gardens, located right here in South LA.
